Spekero Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 16, 2026
This Privacy Policy covers two related but separate things: the spekero.com website and the Spekero mobile app. They handle data differently, so we explain them separately. If you have only visited the website, the app section does not apply to you. If you use the app, both sections are relevant because the website is where you can find this policy and general information about Spekero.
The Spekero website
The website is informational only. It does not have user accounts, does not let you sign in, and does not include any speech-recording or practice features of its own. Those features live in the mobile app.
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign into on the website, and no personal profile or settings are stored there.
- No advertising. The website does not run any advertising network.
- Minimal data collection. We may use basic, privacy-respecting web analytics to understand overall traffic to the site, such as how many people visit and which pages they view. This does not involve tracking you individually across other websites, and no advertising profile is built from it.
- Contact forms or emails. If you email us or use a contact form on the site, we will have whatever information you choose to share, such as your email address and message. We use that information only to respond to you.
The Spekero app
The app is where personal data is collected and stored, because it requires a real account to use.
Account and sign-in
- Creating an account requires an email address and password.
- We use this to identify you, let you sign in on multiple devices, and keep your practice history in sync.
- There is no guest or local-only mode. An account is required to use the app.
What we collect and store
When you use the app, we store:
- Your practice history: which exercises you have completed, when, how long each session lasted, and performance metrics such as words spoken, speaking pace, filler word counts, fluency score, and similar information.
- Your progress and stats: streaks, XP or level, unlocked categories, achievements, and similar gamification data.
- Settings you choose: your display name, notification preferences, theme, and similar preferences.
- Mood check-ins and challenge progress, if you use those features.
Audio recordings
- The app records your voice locally on your device while you practise, so you can play it back immediately after an exercise.
- In almost every case, that audio never leaves your device and is not uploaded anywhere.
- The speaking performance metrics shown to you, such as speaking pace, filler words, and fluency, are generated using simulated analysis, not a real transcription of your recording.
One exception:if you are a paying subscriber, the final recording of each completed exercise is uploaded to OpenAI's Whisper API to generate a real, accurate transcript of what you said. That transcript, and the real metrics calculated from it, are then stored with that exercise session in your account so you can review them later. This is the only situation in which audio recorded in the app is sent to a service outside the app. If transcription fails or times out, the app falls back to the same simulated analysis used for everyone else. No audio is retried or stored elsewhere in that case.
AI coaching feedback
- If you are a paying subscriber, after completing an exercise the app can generate a short, personalized coaching review using Anthropic's Claude AI.
- This is based only on your session performance numbers, such as speaking pace, fluency score, duration, and similar information, and how they compare to your own recent sessions in the same category.
- Claude is never given your raw audio or transcript text.
- Free accounts see a simpler, non-personalized message generated entirely on your device, with no data sent anywhere.
Payments and subscriptions
Subscribing unlocks additional practice categories.
- Stripe processes payments if you subscribe via the website.
- Google Play Billing processes payments on Android.
- Apple's App Store processes payments on iOS.
- Your card details are handled entirely by the payment provider. Spekero never receives or stores your card number.
- We store basic subscription status information, such as whether your subscription is active, which plan you are on, and its renewal date, so the app knows what to unlock for you.
Analytics
- We use PostHog, a product analytics tool, to understand how the app is used, such as which features are popular and where people run into trouble.
- Analytics helps us improve Spekero.
- Analytics is optional. You can turn it off at any time in the app's Privacy settings.
- Turning Analytics off stops any further data being sent immediately.
Data storage and sharing
Your account data is stored securely with Supabase, our backend provider, protected so that only you can access your own data. We share data with a small number of other companies, and only for the specific purposes described in this policy:
- OpenAI receives your exercise audio only if you are a subscriber, and only for that one recording, to generate a transcript through the Whisper API.
- Anthropic receives your performance numbers only if you are a subscriber, to generate coaching feedback.
- Stripe, Google, and Apple handle payment processing for whichever method you use to subscribe.
- PostHog receives anonymized usage analytics unless you have turned this off.
We do not sell your personal data to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising.
Delete Your Spekero Account
You can request permanent deletion of your Spekero account and all associated data at any time, whether or not you still have the app installed.
Option 1: Delete it yourself, in the app
This is the fastest option. Open the Spekero app, sign in, then go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. You will be asked to confirm your password, and your account will be deleted immediately.
Option 2: Request deletion by email
If you no longer have the app installed, or cannot sign in, email support@spekero.com from the email address associated with your Spekero account, with the subject line Account Deletion Request. We will verify the request and delete your account within 14 days.
What gets deleted:
- Your account, including your email and password.
- All practice session history, transcripts, and recordings metadata.
- Your progress, streaks, XP, and achievements.
- Mood check-ins and challenge progress.
- Any active subscription, which is cancelled as part of this process.
- Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
For more detail on what data we collect and how it is used, see this Privacy Policy.
Children's privacy
Spekero is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at the email below and we will delete it.
What Spekero is not
Spekero is a speaking practice tool. It does not provide medical, psychological, legal, or professional diagnosis, treatment, or advice. The feedback provided by the app is intended for personal practice, reflection, and communication improvement only.
Policy updates
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to the app, website, or legal requirements. When updates are made, the revised version will appear on this page.
